Artist Statement

Voix de Villia explores the vibrant history of Her Majesty’s Theatre, a cultural hub once located on Pitt Street in Sydney. It combines the theatre’s florid Victorian architecture with stimulating psychedelic optical illusions and a contemporary color palette. With the use of hanging textiles and engaging graphic design the pop- up exhibition provokes a person to rediscover Sydney’s lost cityscape and reflect on its vastly changing face. Voix de Villia celebrates a uniquely forgotten part of Sydney’s history, and embraces a renewed interpretation of its distinct culture.
