Inspiration for This Work
Each photograph hints at narrative by placing human figures in landscapes abstracted from any particular. Together these images, rather than being simple landscape portraits, deal with matters existential, with issues of space, and time and human being; with seperateness and the ultimate loneliness of existence lived in the face of nothingness. The images are about the heroism of the everyday, and the manner in which people live their lives, with dignity, with pride.
Student Biography
There are an infinity of ways of living a life, a multitude of journeys that people travel. I cast light on a few small moments in some of these journeys; in so doing, I seek to play upon the rich webs of association that each of us carries around in his or her mind. These images are essentially suggestive and ambiguous; intended to guide the viewer towards narrative, towards an exploration of the manner in which value, belief, tradition and prejudice collide within their own minds, and to play upon the innate lust that each of us possesses for narrative interpretation. I give a world; the viewer provides the interpretational horizons that give limits to this world, the bounds that allow for understanding, for narrative.
