Inspiration for This Work

I have a deep love for wildlife. Lions are the animals I tend to photograph and draw the most. This series of portraits was taken at Taronga Zoo in Sydney. I was thrilled to encounter these majestic animals so close.

Student Biography

I was born in Boston, Massachusetts, but grew up in Australia. My artistic ambitions started with watching after-school cartoons as a kid and trying to draw the characters I saw, but I came to dabble in (and love) all kinds of artistic pursuits. I'm inspired by such artists as Dave McKean and Les Edwards, as well as writers including China Mieville and Neil Gaiman. Most of my work draws on my love of wildlife and biology. I'm fascinated by every aspect of the natural world, from the romanticized and beautiful to the gruesome and visceral.
