Inspiration for This Work

Through the resurrection and contemporising of the late 19th and early 20th Century English fantasy illustration, I have created a narrative within a three dimensional scene.

The image depicts the interrogations of the binary opposition of the terms "good" and "evil", whilst addressing the stereotypes that manipulate our responses and judgments of them, in specific relation to the legalisation and public's perception of abortion and stem cell research.

Student Biography

My practice straddles two elements, a wild imagination and a drive for technical perfection; both which lie on a foundation of a love of storytelling.

This love affair with stories began at an early age as I discovered the magical language and symbolism within book illustration, then art, which to this day I am utterly intrigued with.

Having a somewhat curious and philosophical disposition, my work explores existential themes and contemporary issues from the political to the personal.

Despite a great affinity for drawing, illustration and relief printmaking (lino cutting), I believe that in order for any practice to evolve successfully, an artist must not compromise a concept by limiting themselves technically inside their comfort zone. Following my degree, I hope to continue exploring a variety of media, such as sculpture, photography and possibly animation, in addition to the media I have specialised in at COFA.
