Student Biography
When were you born?
I was born on May 4th, 1984.
What is your background?
I was born in Wagga Wagga and grew up playing on my parents farm. This played a major part in my appreciation of nature and how it produces forms that function to their utmost potential. I travelled extensively while I was growing up and this created a sense of just how big the world is and the enormity of what it has to offer.
What inspired you to become an artist or designer?
Rather than being inspired to be a designer, design and art have always been a part of me and the way that I think. It was probably a moment of sheer courage that actually allowed me to follow this career path.
Who would you like to work in collaboration with or create something for?
Ideally I would like to work with a large design/manufacturing company like Ikea where design is invested in, and there is access to new technology and methods of manufacturing. I would also love to work with established designers such as Tom Dixon, new designers like barberosgerby and local designers Korban and Flaubert. There are so many great designers at the moment working with interesting new ways of thinking and I would love to be a of that.
How has your work evolved over the past 3 years?
Over the past 3 years my work has become much more aware of the issue of sustainability. As a new designer I feel obligated to design things that make the world a brighter place to live in. As a result of this I have been working on creating products from readily available industrial packaging waste.
How can art and design contribute to society?
Creativity brings about different solutions and creates an evolution of society. Art and design not only challenge current ways of thinking, but they have the ability to make people's lives easier, brighter and hopefully make them remember to smile each day.
Where would you like to work after university?
After university I would like to go work in the design industry in Europe. I feel that it would be very beneficial to experience close access to manufacturing and Europe's integration of design and culture.
