Inspiration for This Work

The Third Tree Tenancy series explores the symbiosis between architecture, the body, and nature by incorporating vegetation and vegetative forms into wearable designs as a sustainable conceptual solution to diminishing green public space in urban areas. The ideas behind it are influenced by the works and manifestos of Friedensreich Hundertwasser, who sought to unite organic and architectural space by following the maxim "the horizontal belongs to nature, the vertical belongs to man." Thus, nature could reclaim its domain by being situated on the horizontal planes and surfaces of buildings, and would function as a "tenant", paying rent in clean air, preserving natural systems, and creating a calm space.

The organic form stems from the transautomatic growth of the piece - instinctively evolving vegetal growth from cells and lines, and the cyclical process of growth and decay. Ergonomically, it is made to meld perfectly with this foot and is a system for carrying small plant tenants throughout their lifecycle.

Student Biography

My works draw on the fantastical, the aesthetics of ink line work, and the concept of trans-automatic growth; the product of a misspent youth, bent poring over books with informative diagrams and footnoted footnotes.

Recent works have incorporated living plants and industrial materials as part of an ongoing exploration of the human body's interaction with technology, architecture, and organic material. While this is partly due to an interest in the slow development of society into a race of interconnected cyborgs, the official line is that my works are conceptual narratives addressing mimetic identification with our environment. I have a strong interest in the dynamics of public art and design, and the aesthetics of all things mechanical and cold-joined. One day I hope to create an empire of quality products based on the one universal truth: there is nothing more elegant than a clean rivet.
