Inspiration for This Work

I was inspired how polypropylene can be manipulated into different 3-dimensional forms. From a display cover to a beautiful accessory piece. It is really hard to imagine it originated from my old folder. The form was inspired my organic surroundings and how my jewellery can imitate them.

Student Biography

Tak Wai (Rachel) Chu is a 4th year Bachelor of Design student studying at the University of New South Wales; College of Fine Arts- majoring in textiles and applied object design. Throughout these four years of studying design, she realises her desire to be a designer was fuelled by the passion of being able to express her creative ideas into 3D form. Her interest lies in manipulating unwanted materials and incorporating the art of origami into her designs. These weird and wonderful ideas has also earned her a major prize winning position in the COFA Reframe Rethink competition (student category) 2006; for being the most innovative design in the exhibition. In 2005, she was short listed in the Emirates Sydney Morning Herald Young Designers Award and her work "Newspaper Meow" has been displayed at QVB exhibition hall. This year, she was one of the 12 students commissioned to design The IKEA 2008 Catalogue Launch Installation Exhibition. She wishes to continue her practice through working for internationally/nationally renowned design companies and hopes to travel overseas to gain international exposure.
