Inspiration for This Work

These abstract paintings and drawings are the result of investigating the transfer and constant movement, subtle and obvious, fused and alienated, of humans when experiencing an event in close proximity to one another.

Not only do they share a spectacle, but unacknowledged is the transfer of emanated heat, sweat, breath, noise and more. These not only contribute subliminally to the experience, but they meld the spectators into an amalgam, which overflows the defined unit of space allocated to each individual.

This work uses the repetition of the square to represent the attempted assertion of order over the chaos of that which can’t be contained.

Student Biography

For as long as I can remember, I have made things and my head has been littered with the possibility of projects and objects. The last few years have given me the opportunity to focus on developing and realising concepts through painting and drawing.

I am interested in exploring works which examine aspects of ordinary life including accumulated mass-produced, man-made lost and found objects depicted in colour relationships, and also the nature of shared experience.

Captured random images of large-scale events are the basis for examining the unwitting exchange of ephemeral and unquantifiable amounts of heat, breath, moisture and smell. These uncontrollable transgressions permeate personal space and are a source of inspiration.

The rendering of consumerism through actual collected found objects, together with the intangible chaos and order of communal events are dichotomous facets of everyday life. I envisage continued analysis of these intriguing aspects as sources for the development of my practice.
