Kev the Canine and the Cave Adventure is a book designed to teach children aged 5-9 about dental care. The project came about as a response to the current dental crisis that has been prevalent in Australia for many years. Book format was chosen as it can be made accessible to everyone from suburbia to their counterparts in rural areas who suffer the most from lack of dental access and knowledge. The book focuses on the notion of prevention being better than the cure and aims to educate children how to best look after the welfare of their own teeth.

The book is tactile which entices the children to touch the pages and makes it a fun and memorable learning experience. The story starts with Kev the Canine and his pal Flo the Tooth Fairy going on an adventure into the mouth of a cave…

When were you born?

What is your background?

I was born & raised in Sydney. To my friends I’m known as the ice skater and have been fortunate enough to travel to world as a result of it.

What inspired you to become an artist or designer?

I’m inspired by Scandinavian design, the simplicity of their textiles and influences in design from what’s around them.

Who would you like to work in collaboration with or create something for?

In my secret 2nd life as an ice skater I often see costumes that are unconsidered. I’d love to use my textile knowledge to create unique costumes.

How can art and design contribute to society?

It has the ability to make the mundane into something special.

Where would you like to work after university?

Overseas! As well as graphics and textiles, I’m interested in exploring photography. An integration of all those fields would be ideal.
