Inspiration for This Work

The brief for The Gift project was to create an object valued at approximately $250 for an eminent visitor to UNSW. As eminent people are usually on the go and need to be efficient and organised, I created a travel satchel for them to carry their documents in.

The satchel is hand felted using pure wool, silk and mohair. The UNSW logo was engraved onto the buckle. Colours used are based on the city of Prague in the Czech Republic.

When were you born?

What is your background?

I was born & raised in Sydney. To my friends I’m known as the ice skater and have been fortunate enough to travel to world as a result of it.

What inspired you to become an artist or designer?

I’m inspired by Scandinavian design, the simplicity of their textiles and influences in design from what’s around them.

Who would you like to work in collaboration with or create something for?

In my secret 2nd life as an ice skater I often see costumes that are unconsidered. I’d love to use my textile knowledge to create unique costumes.

How can art and design contribute to society?

It has the ability to make the mundane into something special.

Where would you like to work after university?

Overseas! As well as graphics and textiles, I’m interested in exploring photography. An integration of all those fields would be ideal.
