Inspiration for This Work

From the past I come, is a collection of garments that was inspired from the Ching Dynasty exhibits of the Asian Civilisation Museum in Singapore. ‘Back to the roots’ is the finale piece of this collection and it is a princess line dress with yoke, and a ruched skirt with bias cut skirt extension in nylon corded lace and silk embroidery. 10 pairs of tie strings are at the centre back to fasten the gown.

Student Biography

I am from Singapore, and I came to UNSW College of Fine Arts after my three year Apparel Design & Merchandising Diploma, which gained me the UNSW Golden Jubilee Scholarship to further my studies in Australia, as well as a two-year advanced standing for the Bachelor of Design. I saw the offer as an opportunity to learn independence overseas, and also to broaden my scope of design, as I feel that it is vital for designers and artists to be immersed in different environments so that their design ideas could be brought to a higher level of sophistication. Over the past few years, my design philosophy had developed around people and life; hence, my works are greatly influenced by this. Since young, I have always been interested in what people wear, be it jewellery or textiles, and I would be most interested in working with contemporary apparel or jewellery companies.
