Student Biography

When were you born?

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

What is your background?

I came to Sydney last year, 2006. I have been a graphic designer for 3 years, and have completed an undergraduate program in Visual and Digital Arts back in Kuala Lumpur.

What inspired you to become an artist or designer?

I am a visually driven person. My body of work is inspired mostly by the sexual context of the feminine and the celebration of beauty and youth. My inspiration also comes from art, design, fashion and music.

Who would you like to work in collaboration with or create something for?

I would love to collaborate with individuals from different practices such as graphic designers, product designers, fashion designers, architects, photographers and musicians.

How has your work evolved over the past 3 years?

My body of work has matured in the sense of self-discovery. My fine art works are my personal confrontation and a private form of expression, to understand and to express the feminine notion and obsession towards my so-called 'ideal perfection', an attempt for an ideal self-portrait, or even an anti-portrait. My design works range from personal/creativeto corporate graphic design.

How can art and design contribute to society?

Art and design reflects the level of development and sophistication of any society. Anything around us has to be designed, or visualized by someone who is well informed and visually aware. This is something that needs support and interests from society itself.

Where would you like to work after university?

I am both a painter and a designer. I would like to be more involved in both the corporate and the creative side of art and design (design studios, artist-run spaces and online community, commercial galleries) both locally and internationally.
