Inspiration for This Work
As a child my family moved house several times. I began to paint houses and streets desiring to capture a subconscious estrangement I felt from the stability associated with a place people call home.
Student Biography
When were you born?
January 25th 1984
What is your background?
I have was borne and lived in Sydney most of my life, but have also moved around Australia, as my parents were keen travellers. I have lived in Queensland, Broome and Perth and have been to six different schools.
What inspired you to become an artist or designer?
My parents were fairly creative, my Dad making puppets for a hobby, so I think I was a aware of art and creativity from a very young age. My desire to imagine and dream grew through my childhood and I was encouraged by family to pursue it so I started drawing comics and wrote stories accompanied by pictures.
How has your work evolved over the past 3 years?
I used to be interested in people and drew people and places too, within common life. I also liked depicting boats and lake scenes of the fishing village I lived in. My interest grew substantially towards abstraction, now looking more at abstraction in aspects of nature.
How can art and design contribute to society?
Art has a lot to offer because in certain disciplines people find ways to communicate their concerns with society, politics and humanity. Art also brings people together through the interaction of artist's projects and activities.
Where would you like to work after university?
I think I would like to do curatorial work because it would apply my ability to organise and self navigate through a positive artistic environment, working with artists like myself.
