Student Biography

When were you born?

I was born in Sri Lanka on July 3rd 1945.

What is your background?

I am a Sri Lankan Tamil. My Father, M.S Kandiah, was a lecturer at the university in Sri Lanka.

What inspired you to become an artist or designer?

I continue to be amazed and inspired by many artists both past and present, who have been successful in capturing the spirituality and complexities of nature in their art work.

How has your work evolved over the past 3 years?

Each and every image has a story to tell, the images are about perception, the link between external reality and the ideas in our mind. I continue to be amazed and inspired by nature. I have been capturing the complexities of nature through landscape with dramatic lighting and colours in simplified ways where you can see the approaches to landscape have involved environmental and cultural concern.

How can art and design contribute to society?

Art should enhance human values, culture and design should provide beauty and comfortable.

Where would you like to work after university?

My first preference is to be a professional painter or to work in art related jobs.
