Student Biography

My study seeks to expose the underbelly of regional small towns through circulating rumours and hidden stories of suicide, murder, affairs, drug trade and dangerous floods. Set against the backdrop of a picturesque landscape, there is a contrast between a traditional craft and modern day topics. Focusing on the quaint tourist town of Bellingen in northern New South Wales the romantic notions of the idyllic Australian bush are questioned.

The scenes are revealed through the eyes of my elderly watercolour teacher from my childhood, a grandmother whose quaint paintings of Bellingen were framed by Australian wildlife.
