Inspiration for This Work

The integration of two cultural systems that affect my life in so many ways: Filipino/Chinese and Australian. Another influence would be that of the techniques of construction and the manner by which I can communicate my ideas through textiles and its interaction with the body when worn.

Student Biography

When were you born?

22nd March, 1986

What is your background?

I was born in Sydney, Australia but my parents are of Filipino and Chinese origin.

What inspired you to become an artist or designer?

As I grew up I was always fascinated with construction and the way things held form and shape. To take a flat surface and re-contextualise it.

Who would you like to work in collaboration with or create something for?

Internationally, Alexander McQueen or Anna Sui. In Australia, I would love to collaborate with the designers of Lover and Alistair Trung.

How has your work evolved over the past 3 years?

With a greater awareness for the relationship between form, texture and space, my works attempt to question these elements through unique textile processes.

How can art and design contribute to society?

Art and design is just another form of self and communal communication between individuals and groups in society. It offers new perspectives to present issues.

Where would you like to work after university?

With Australian and international fashion and textile designers for experience and also to contribute my skills and new ideas to this growing industry
