Inspiration for This Work

BRIEF: design a chair using recycled materials.

Chairldren II is a redesign of a school chair into one that is more supportive and promotes better posture.

The current school chair designs do not support the growing body in positive and effective ways leading children into habits of bad posture and consequent back issues. This design reforms the polypropylene by grinding and remoulding it into a saddle stool that allows the user to interact with the chair in multiple ways. The design naturally tilts the pelvis forward and elevates the back from a slouching position. It also pulls apart to become a balancing board or a cushion to aid sitting on the ground. The existing legs of the original chair are reused in the design.
