Inspiration for This Work

BRIEF: Design a workstation of the Future.

Technology has transformed the business world into a virtual playground. Where filing cabinets were, a floppy disk, compact disk or flash drive is. Where typewriters were, an electrical keyboard is, the fingerprint of your index finger representing not one letter, but several. Your desktop no longer sits at elbow height perpendicular to your torso, but parallel to it and where the local post box is, well, it isn’t, the efficiency, speed and convenience of Electronic mail (email) has completely superseded the need for a post box.

Today, the sea of cables adorning the interiors of skyscrapers and snaking their way through the crowd of employees like a digital blood stream are no longer necessary either. The blue blood has been exposed to the wireless atmosphere of oxygen and opened to the possibilities of movement and hot desks, the notion of shared, transient desk space. The wireless environment also opens the door to the internet, a brain of information and virtual public space extending the capabilities of telecommunication and global interaction.

The concept of a desktop today works like a pop- up book. You open the cover and the desktop pops up, you turn the page and your workstation turns into a neat compact book- size laptop that can be taken anywhere. Office space, just like filing cabinets is being supplanted by virtual space. This workstation is for the nomad. Compact, light and wireless (portable).
