Inspiration for This Work

Pirates of Penzance was performed by a residential college in 2006 and I was Head of Set Design for the production. For Act 1 the cliffs were those based on those in Cardiff and Act 2 consisted of a deserted chapel by night.

Student Biography

When were you born?

I was born and raised in Coffs Harbour on the NSW mid-north coast but visited Sydney frequently developing a love for the city as well.

What is your background?

My family were heavily involved in local amateur theatre as I was growing up which was a big inspiration.

What inspired you to become an artist or designer?

I have always found drawing and painting so fulfilling, and in combination with theatrical involvement, a strong passion developed for design.

Who would you like to work in collaboration with or create something for?

Anyone in professional theatre for a production such as Cats!

How has your work evolved over the past 3 years?

Studying has allowed me to not only increase my knowledge but also expand my areas of interest, especially in graphic design.

How can art and design contribute to society?

I see art and design as the result of people struggling for the best possible representation of society in any given time in history.

Where would you like to work after university?

Within in set design or graphics in any arena but especially musical theatre would be fantastic!
