Inspiration for This Work

The inspiration for this work comes from the bizarre shapes and folds of the flower and its rich and vibrant colour. Lighting can entirely change the mood of an image and by only revealing a small portion of the flower it looks quite surreal.

Student Biography

Kelly Geddes's work focuses on the remarkable, beautiful and even sometimes bizarre aspects of nature. The desire to construct and mould nature unusually into the confines of a 2D image has always been a strong part of Kelly's aesthetic. Her work seeks to incorporate an element of 'personal construction', something she believes is in opposition to the workings of nature (a self-governed entity traditionally thought of as 'untouched' by humans). Kelly wishes to combine the simplicity found in the human form with the often unexpected and remarkable elements intrinsic to nature, in order to create images that are visually striking and unusual; images that cause the viewer to consider elements of nature in an entirely different way. Kelly feels that a combination of boldness and simplicity is difficult to achieve in photography and this is something she has strived for within her body of work.
