Inspiration for This Work

This was work accepted for Sculpture by the Sea 07. Part of my proposal reads:

The psyche of much contemporary culture revolves around the obsessions of achieving and maintaining the body beautiful. Referencing stylised Greek and Roman mythical god-like figures is highlighted through the use of bronze. This is in juxtaposition to the timber supports, with the bronze intimately mounted on weathered, worn and an ultimately degrading material. Implicit in this is the inherent fallacy of the sustainability and whole over-the-top single mindedness of the fitness industry.

Student Biography

Over the years, the physical form of people, animals and the land has provided much interest and intrigue. To capture the emotion and the 'soul' of a subject is the essence of using a pliable medium. My work seeks to go beyond the physical, accessing our emotional and spiritual sides.

The reassurance that there is an all encompassing, comforting body surrounding us is a basic need of our lives. Many experiment with dark and dangerous forms and are left scarred, or with an emptiness that doesn't get filled. My work confronts and stimulates people to seek illumination, and provide comfort through images.

Born 1960 in Sydney, lives and works in the beautiful Sutherland Shire, Sydney.
