Inspiration for This Work

Knowledge, the learning outcome. Learning is a lifetime process; acquired knowledge representing gaining experience, professional confidence and skills. During the learning process in university, knowledge is absorbed by individuals incrementally. In response to this process, an object is designed to record one stage of life’s learning. This object expresses visually the layering of knowledge, accumulated during a specific period of time - in this case, the time spent at UNSW undertaking post graduate studies. The abstraction of the four letters of university’s name are linked and layered mark the completion of this period of learning.

The gift design - “Knowledge”, was selected for show-casing at the UNSW Graduate Research School, Sydney 2006.

Student Biography

When were you born?

The sixth month of the year of pig, 1983.

What is your background?

I am from a family of 4 in Hong Kong and bring the only one who chose to explore the wonderful typographic design world in my family.

What inspired you to become an artist or designer?

I am inspired by my daily life :-)

Who would you like to work in collaboration with or create something for?

Droog, Frost*, Experimental Jetset, Toko, Keith Tam, Zak Kyes, Kenya Hara…Otl Aicher!

How has your work evolved over the past 3 years?

I started off as a piece of blank paper and now I am a small collection of visual journals; keep stacking up still.

Where would you like to work after university?

Any where that I feel comfortable working; with Australia 1st on my list, Netherlands the 2nd.
