Inspiration for This Work
‘Social Clicks’ is a social interface about encouraging social responsibility through interplay. It is about bringing minds and ideas into contact with each other by supporting group & face-to-face interactions.
This conversational system visually provides social feedback that can be accessed in several different ways.
Based around localized interactions, the website allows one to view and reflect on group feedback from specified locations. The Mobile interface allows one to click into conversations on the move, & the custom designed wristband shows one’s individual responses updated live. The wristband flashes and vibrates when people with similar thoughts & ideas come within a certain range of proximity.
The application works via a question & response system. You can ask and respond to 4 ‘levels’ of questioning via this device. It is then up to you to take the conversation further.
Student Biography
When were you born?
1985.
What is your background?
I am 1 of 3 siblings, born and raised in Sydney.
What inspired you to become an artist or designer?
Other people have often encouraged my creativity so that pursuing a career in this area just seemed like a natural progression. My grandmother always had a unique and artistic flair, even though this was perhaps never fully realised.
Who would you like to work in collaboration with or create something for?
I’d like to be actively involved in any interesting, innovative and creative projects. I am particularly interested in how design can influence social interaction and social responsibility.
How has your work evolved over the past 3 years?
I certainly feel that I now know a lot more about design than I ever knew before, but in doing so I have also discovered how much more there is for me to learn. Throughout the wide range of experiences I have received from university directed and personal projects, I have started to realise my own unique style and ways of working that are effective for me.
How can art and design contribute to society?
Art and design are the very essence of society. Life is a creative experience and we all shape society with each and every decision we make. It is the act of creativity through art and design, which allows us to take risks and in turn, come to realise all our capabilities. Life is one big giant canvas.
Where would you like to work after university?
In a multi-disciplinary design studio that has a strong graphics focus. I’d also like to work in a place that welcomes fresh ideas and helps me to learn and develop my own practice.
