Student Biography

When were you born?

Grew up in Woolgoolga, a small NSW coastal village, loving surfing & ocean. Won 2nd in first Australian Women’s Surfboard Championships, Bondi Beach

What is your background?

Scottish great-grandmother arrived 1876, raised 6 children outback QLD Boulia. English orphaned great-grandfather arrived NSW 1860, lived Woolgoolga

What inspired you to become an artist or designer?

Ocean’s eternal changing light, tides, moon Evolve my careers as SMH photographer & Dept Education video director into artworks of mystery intrigue

Who would you like to work in collaboration with or create something for?

USA video artist Bill Viola, to create a major installation exploring Australia’s waterscapes and their relationship to mythology & spirituality

How has your work evolved over the past 3 years?

My work has evolved from a photo-journalist approach to a more creative, evocative style where meaning is mysterious, layered & ambiguous.

How can art and design contribute to society?

Art and design are essential for a just, fair, enjoyable, exciting society where people express & find meaning in different cultures & spirituality

Where would you like to work after university?

To evolve my video installations of expressionist figurative waterscapes into mythological and spiritual journeys into meaning & emotions of water
