Jordana Maisie Goot
Inspiration for This Work
This work is meant to be a sensory "experience", not a representation of certain components of an immersive installation. However, considering it is difficult to document a work that has not yet been installed in its entirety I thought I would submit some video stills because they are relevant and nice to look at.
Student Biography
To create and learn, learn and create. That's what inspired me to commit to the arts.
My work explores ideas surrounding marginalisation and perception. Enthralled by the power of sound to transform (both physical and emotional) space, my recent work has focused on creating immersive sound environments which use visual aid as a secondary medium to contradict and/or reaffirm common ways of seeing, feeling and interacting with the world.
Sound is often viewed as a marginal medium within a contemporary fine art context.
Studying for my Masters has provided me with the opportunity to consolidate and push my art practice, looking at the many different ways and mediums in which one main idea (perception and identity) can manifest and be manipulated.
Art often allows for a reinterpretation of current and/or long-standing issues in a fresh and interesting way, I like the challenge of researching and reinterpreting.
