Inspiration for This Work

Going to the film festival in Centennial Park and encountering this particularly eerie patch of trees inspired the mood of this work. Going back to take photographs before dawn and experiencing the surreal juxtaposition of eerie landscape and aspects of a place so close to the centre of Sydney (cue random bike riders) inspired the exploration of the relationship between the two, and the idea of the deserted landscape, although in reality, it was very far from deserted.

Student Biography

I was born in Sydney in 1987, to loving, but completely un-creative parents. A love of drawing throughout my childhood (although remarkably unable to paint convincingly until year 10) saw me studying Visual arts in high school and eventually led to me choosing a Bachelor of Fine Arts at COFA as my first and only option after the HSC.

I have a love for painting portraits, although my most recent work explores the subject of nature, trees, and more specifically deserted landscapes.

My work has improved quite dramatically over the last three years. Large projects are less intimidating. I have a better understanding of oil-paint use. I will continue my creative pursuits (including drawing, painting and work with sound media) after university in an attempt to further develop my skills as an artist, and I plan on exhibiting as soon as I am able to.
