Irene Teng
Inspiration for This Work
The underwear that we wear reveals our true self.
Student Biography
Trapped between digital media, print making and jewellery design, Irene’s work attempts to be as exciting as it is confusing. Exploring sexuality with a slight tinge of horror, all wrapped up in a cellophane of cute, her illustrations and photography in particular can come across as disturbing, and yet at times enduring. And while her ‘Faust’ pendants and ‘Carbon Copy’ t-shirts are clear-cut exercises in embodying her concepts and ideas into practical objects, pieces like "Love & Pantie" and "I Love My Hooker" demonstrate Irene’s masochistic approach of travelling back and forth between digital and analogue. For her, process is as important and enjoyable as coming up with more delirious ideas. And as long as the little bunny in her head keeps pushing her on, she’ll continue to populate her fairy floss world.
