Inspiration for This Work

To create a sustainable emergency shelter for annual floods in Laos. The current usage of conventional western tents undermines the culture and habits of the people living in Laos. They shelter the people physically, but may not be as humanely. This project accommodates the people's culture, lifestyle, architecture and traditional art. These structures are made from materials that are easily available locally and can be flat packed and stored for use when the flood comes. The forms are inspired by the Lao architecture of triangular roof frames, weaving and stilts.
