Inspiration for This Work

I've always been a fan of the steam and cyberpunk culture. The production and manifestation of robots have always fascinated me. However, the disposal of used models and earlier versions must not be ignored either. Considering the amount of waste humans generate at present, there is no measure to how much more waste (and what kinds of waste!) we will soon be generating - not to mention, where we will be disposing it.

This is a Futurama-esque take on a bleak outlook, "We once were Robots. Now we are Space Junk."

Student Biography

Gad Tan is a multi-disciplinary designer exploring the aesthetics of virtual environments. His design is largely influenced by the strict typographical layouts present in print media as well as being dictated by bold and strong presentation of positive and negative space. At the same time, he explores the infinite possibilities of random generated procedural artwork.

Over the course of university, Gad has peppered his time during vacations with work. In 2005, he began a short-term internship with Charlie Lim Photography (Singapore, Shanghai), working closely together with Charlie himself in conceptualising his interactive portfolio. A year later, he commenced a brief placement with The Asylum in Singapore where, he worked with some of the most influential names in design and a broad base of clients.

Gad views his personal work as formative research for new ways to communicate ideas professionally. He believes in simplicity and clarity, both in his design process and everyday life.
