Ella Condon
Student Biography
Ella Condon’s series Autonomy, deals with the realisation that we are ultimately alone in this world. The series consists of six photographic prints, 40in x 40in, depicting subjects who are experiencing moments of isolated contemplation.
Autonomy explores the common experience that connects her subjects who stand alone. It is their introversion and dislocation from others that allows them to meditate and disappear in their own thoughts. These moments she captures without intervening with the subject.
Elements of this series have been exhibited at the Australian Centre for Photography in the Student Show, 2007.
In other work, Ella has explored a strained and un-natural relationship with the landscape through documenting empty urban landscapes. She exhibited mixed media work in a group show STOP at COFA’s Exhibition Space, 2006. Previous artworks were hung at the Lloyd Rees Memorial Youth Award, 2005.
Artists that inspire Ella’ practice include David Moore, Derek Henderson, Diane Arbus, Glenn Sloggett, Jane Campion, Lynne Roberts Goodwin and Martin Mischkulnig.
