Inspiration for This Work

This work was inspired by travel and sound waves.

It looks at how environments and sounds around us can greatly effect our moods and emotions. Some sounds are very tranquil and fluid allowing us to get carried away in their experience. But other situation and events can conjure up tension and friction.

Student Biography

When were you born?

Born 1986, Sydney, New South Wales.

What is your background?

I was born in Sydney and have always lived in Australia, though my Father is English and my Mother is Australian.

What inspired you to become an artist or designer?

The satisfaction I get from putting my own passion into my art and seeing how it lights up others. Art itself changes one's environment and bring such joy.

Who would you like to work in collaboration with or create something for?

Akira Isogawa's amazing understanding and appreciation of textiles is truly inspirational. Designing in collaboration with him for the Sydney Dance Company would be amazing.

How has your work evolved over the past 3 years?

Through continuous experimentation and my fascination for unusual materials, I have come to understand these materials and allow myself to be open to where they lead me into new forms.

How can art and design contribute to society?

They mirror back society and reveal society's issues, making us see them in a different light. They also demonstrate developing trends and future technology innovations.

Where would you like to work after university?

I would love to work in a theatre and dance company designing and creating beautiful and extravagant costumes, and seeing the cloth move to its full potential.
