Inspiration for This Work

My Colour-by-Numbers series deals with the notion of children's creative development and what can nurture or restrict it. The creatively restrictive colour-by-numbers system is broken down when sections or colours are singled out and areas are left incomplete. The systematic process of colour-by-numbers is well suited to screen printing, with neither leaving too much room for spontaneity.

Student Biography

I'm a 21 year old printmaker and have a primary focus in screen printing. I love and enjoy how as a printmaker my process is broken down into thoughtful, methodical stages. This year I have explored how this practice can be juxtaposed with the naive spontaneity of childhood drawings, and also use the motif of colour-by-numbers to deal with this idea of artistic process while also critiquing the system's restrictive nature. I have also moved into creating 3D printed works through sewing with textiles I have screen printed.
