Dominic Kirkwood
Inspiration for This Work
A train screeching to a halt. The hum of air-conditioning on a car park roof top. The cavernous din of chairs scraping and children screaming in a shopping centre. Fluttering bird chirps floating down a derelict river valley. The vinyl squeak of an old escalator. Jeeps and cars with sound systems that go boom! These are some of the sounds that permeate non-place. A drum track pattering on its own bereft of any accompanying instrumentation. Grinding guitar feedback. Kick-snare-hi-hat. Kick-kick-snare-hit-hat. Rave synth. Tinny music pouring out of a public address system. This is the sound of music welling up and floating across non-place. Unapologetic, unexplained.
