Inspiration for This Work

This Work was created in the Porosity Studio in conjunction with Richard Goodwin in Rotterdam, Holland, 2006. It deals with the constant pumping of sludge from the bottom of Rotterdam's harbour as a result of it being Europe's major industrial port. The larger than lifesize crawling figure represents Rotterdam as a struggling machine, constructed from found materials and industrial scrap.

Student Biography

As an artist, I try to challenge the common views of technology and society. This is done through the reflection and interaction with complex and outdated machinery in order to comment on society's current development and advancements. The large scale sculptures are usually based around kinesis, and involve some aspect of interaction with the viewer. This level of contact with the work exerts ideas of manual labour and slavery showing a change in order, progress and development within the history of humans. These large constructions inevitably portray the story that is human development and hints at the future showing the desired need for construction, technology, and change within our society.
