Student Biography

From an early age I have related to the world visually. As a result some of the simplest of life experiences have formed my artworks. Flicking through a family photo album, tracing my bookshelves at home, drawing large scale golden section shells…

When comprehending my world I have always paired down images to their essential elements. This has lead me to my fascination with text, I have always engaged with text visually through my exposure to Japanese and Chinese art and crafts.

Books to me have always been both incredibly interesting on a visual and intellectual level, containing a universal aesthetic. The geometry and form of text has become my art. The rearrangement of text has opened up new possibilities of meaning. Text has the formality of form and structure, through the geometrically based relationships between the edge of the page and the text, and within the characters themselves.
