Inspiration for This Work

Out on the rocks guarding the harbour looking back towards land and seeing the lights from the Fish and chips shop bounce of the water and around the wharf.

Student Biography

Born in 1987, raised in Wollongong; Steel City of NSW. My school photography teacher inspired me to document my surroundings; always drawing my attention was the monolith dominating the coastline- The Steelworks. Living on pristine beaches with beautiful flora, glancing southwards revealed chimneystacks dominating every structure in sight and billowing thick smoke. It was difficult to understand why this place was chosen to construct such a monstrosity.

At COFA, I’ve learned to focus such feelings into cohesive artworks. My major works explore the juxtaposition of human intervention within the environment.

Being an artist puts you in a unique position to offer commentary. The statements made can be so powerful they define historic periods. While my commentary’s limited to areas I’ve lived, my ambition’s to experience cultures across the world in order to make more powerful and universal statements about human nature and also its relationship to the environment.
