Inspiration for This Work

Shelly Beach at Cronulla is a beautiful little beach that should be accessible for all people. The brief required a futuristic approach and I responded with knowledge of the beach and an interest in those with disabilities requiring a public healing place. The site was transformed to cater for hover chairs that move on all surfaces and an interactive play area in the family orientated park.

Student Biography

What is your background?

I was born and raised in Sydney's south east, close to the bush and beach and I find these environmental aspects and issues strongly influence my work

What inspired you to become an artist or designer?

Ever since I was little I have been re designing layouts and objects around the house. I have also had a keen interest in drawing and art in general so I decided the perfect line of work would be to combine these interests and make a career from them. The career has become a lifestyle and I have never looked back

How has your work evolved over the past 3 years?

I have been studying art and design for the past five years and found I have gained a deeper appreciation for art and design across all fields, taking a multidisciplinary approach to my work and drawing on influences from all aspects of the art and design world. I am always appreciative for what I have, yet I am also always looking for creative ways to improve upon it.

How can art and design contribute to society?

My philosophy in life and my work is that life is a journey not a destination. Design should work to enhance the experience of the user and not merely to provide a means to an end.

Where would you like to work after university?

Following the completion of my degree at the end of 2007, I am excited to pursue work in the areas of spatial /environments design. However I am keen to work collaboratively in or with all fields including graphics, object, print and photography.
