Seeing unhappy people in the city, business people and homeless people, the sense of isolation and emptiness.
Student Biography
When were you born?
I was born in 1983.
What is your background?
I grew up in Australia and my family background is English and Welsh.
What inspired you to become an artist or designer?
I have always loved doing creative things, such as painting, cooking, sculpture, pretty much anything that is hands on and involves colour and form.
Who would you like to work in collaboration with or create something for?
It would be great to collaborate with other environmental artists or activists to make art work about social and environmental injustice.
How has your work evolved over the past 3 years?
In first year, my work was highly aesthetic and the concepts were quite simplistic, gradually my work has gained more conceptual ambiguity and I've been working on a larger scale.
How can art and design contribute to society?
Art can impact audiences by inspiring them, informing them about political issues outside of their bubble, and the visual elements of beauty in art brings people joy and hope.
Where would you like to work after university?
I would like to work in Italy, learn more of the classical forms of sculpture, or possibly work in a museum, or in with a group of artists.
