Inspiration for This Work

Part of the SleepingWith Sebastian (2007) project.

Based upon the concept of allegory, and creating quirky, dreamlike stories, each design is colourfully illustrated and reflects sweet moments of whimsy shared by a young woman, Anouk and her pet cat, Sebastian.

This particular textile print was based upon the notion of an urban playground where history, memories and modernity integrate and unite harmoniously.

I was born in July of 1985.

What is your background?

I grew up in the Blue Mountains and spent the majority of my life living there.

What inspired you to become an artist or designer?

I’ve always been drawn to art and design. When I was young, I would paint, draw, design dream homes and make my own paper dolls.

Who would you like to work in collaboration with or create something for?

I would love to complete a range of textiles in collaboration with Tord Boontje, or CD packaging with Stefan Sagmeister.

How has your work evolved over the past 3 years?

Over the years, my work has become more refined, resolved and distinct, while still being an accurate stylistic reflection of me.

How can art and design contribute to society?

Design contributes towards a more beautiful, functional and meaningful society.

Where would you like to work after university?

I would love to work for a design studio that is experimental in their approach, with a strong graphics and textiles angle.
