Inspiration for This Work

My Time Spent in Fowler's Gap.

Student Biography

I was born in Wagga Wagga and my family lived in Tumbarumba then moved to Orange when I was three years old. Thus, I grew up in the country and have always been interested in the land around me. I would describe my style of painting as abstract in particular imaging landscapes and the land. I recently spent two weeks in Australia's arid zone north of Broken Hill and much of my inspiration and work evolved from this time in the landscape. I try to capture the essence of Australia's unique landscapes in my paintings and I also use materials found within the land in my works. I like to use sand and ochre and other materials to build up texture in the works and to hint at the land that they came from. It is my intention to continue working in this manner after leaving university. To find an area of the landscape that interests me, immerse myself in that place and paint from my experiences whilst there.
